BIOGRAPHY

Scott Jordan is a multi-instrumentalist who plays koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, gayageum, piri, and DIY instruments, and a creative artist and composer who specializes in improvisational and contemporary music.  He performs with various musicians and dancers in the lively Tokyo improvisational music scene. Scott is the producer and director of the "Hougaku Sokkyo Project" performance series that features leading hougaku musicians. In the performance series he produced called “Three Windows” he commissioned compositions from composers Watanabe Yukiko and Akimoto Miyuki. Scott twice appeared on Tokyo MX’s “The Golden Hour” in 2010 and has performed internationally with the butoh dance group Shizuku. He has ten years of experience studying with koto virtuoso Sawaii Kazue and has earned a teaching license in koto. He studies shakuhachi with Obama Akihito and kayagum with Kim Ol. He graduated from the University of Montana in 2000 where he studied music composition with Patrick C. Williams and gained additional guidance from David Maslanka. He has compositions available from Brixton Publications.
